Daily Kos: More Churches Not Doing the "Right" Thing

Daily Kos: Pastor Dan's take on the recent news about politically shifting evangelicals--an interesting diary, check it out: "One of the things we tend to miss in talking about the impact of the politicized megachurches is just how small a slice of the population they really are. It's easy to get the heebie-jeebies about Rod Parsley's 12,000 member Word of Life Church, but the fact is, that congregation is a vanishingly small percent of Ohio's roughly eight-and-a-half million Christians. (.0014, to be exact.)

Very well then, you might say. What about all those other churches just like his? Well, megachurches - those that draw more than 2,000 worshipers per week, on average - are less than one percent of the total Christian congregations in the US. The Hartford Seminary has documented about 1200 of them. Out of a total of up to 400,000 churches, that makes their 'one percent' generous."
